AI API Diagnosis

When your AI API calls fail, time out, or get rate limited — enter a Base URL and API Keyto pinpoint which layer is broken: DNS, TCP, TLS, or HTTP auth.

Common AI API Error Codes

HTTP StatusClassificationMeaning & Action
529overloaded_errorAnthropic server-side overload (529 overloaded_error — not the same as 429 rate limiting). This request did not consume your quota. Retry later; no need to replace your API Key or plan.
429rate_limitedRate limited (429). Check your quota and request frequency: slow down, add exponential backoff, or upgrade your plan.
429 / insufficient_balanceinsufficient_balanceDeepSeek account balance is insufficient, causing rate limiting (429 insufficient_balance). Top up your balance first.
402insufficient_balanceDeepSeek returned 402: insufficient account balance (DeepSeek-specific code). Top up before retrying.
401invalid_keyAPI Key is invalid or revoked (401). Check that the Key was copied fully (no leading/trailing spaces), has not expired, and was not revoked by the provider. Regenerate if needed.
403 / unsupported_countryregion_blockedThe provider blocks the current source IP by region (403 unsupported_country). Note: this probe originates from tracert.us servers, so the result may differ from your local network — if your local calls work fine, only the probe region is blocked.
403forbiddenRequest forbidden (403). Check your API Key scopes, account status (banned/overdue), and access policies.
404endpoint_not_foundEndpoint not found (404). Check the Base URL and path: OpenAI-compatible APIs usually live under /v1 — verify the version segment and path.
— / model_not_foundmodel_not_foundModel ID does not exist or is not accessible (model_not_found). Check the model name spelling, or whether it has been enabled for your account.
405method_not_allowedProbe method not allowed (405). This endpoint may not be OpenAI-compatible.

Note: probes originate from tracert.us servers (a single region), so region-based blocks (e.g. OpenAI unsupported_country) and rate limits may differ from your local network. Your API Key is used for this check only — never stored, never logged.
